After graduating from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Kim joined Samsung Electronics in 1985. After working in the Paris office for six years, he was selected for Samsung's Global MBA Program and studied at the HEC Paris Business School in France, after which he joined the future strategy group under the Samsung group restructuring headquarters, where he worked on various strategic projects (market driven change, digital marketing strategy, SEC 10-year mid-term strategy, etc.)

Following that, Kim moved to Europe, where he served as president of Samsung UK and France and CEO of Samsung Europe from 2005 to 2013. He returned to Korea in 2014 to serve as CMO of Samsung Electronics, Head of Strategic Marketing, Wireless Business Division, Head of B2B Center, Head of Global Government Affairs Team, and Global Head of Cheil Worldwide Planning.

Since 2018, following 33 years of service at Samsung, Kim began working as the CEO of VIVACE LAB, which provides consulting services on overseas expansion while also discovering, developing, and providing investment advice for domestic and foreign startups.​
